Company names and logos: silliness abounds

Once upon a time companies had sensible names. United Dairy Products, Baxter's Timber, Universal Molasses, Bent Brothers Rubber Products, Greenhouse Gas Corporation. You know where you are with names like that. It was probably the boss who thought up the name and then got a signwriter to paint it over the door.
These days names are more likely to be coined by the signwriter, or at least a graphic designer. The bigger the company, the more likely the urge to create a brand name that will be different, eye-catching and non-specific. To compensate for it being a bland name, if it can be created without sticking to the convention of using alphabetic characters with spaces between the words, even better. Why not Go4IT (the well-known information technology company)?

Indeed, trendy technology companies are the most likely to want such trendy names. How about
      Go4a/ (a chain of 'restrooms')

And just to prove that graphic designers can make unfortunate choices of typefaces for video stores, pity poor Megaflicks . . .
